Hello hello!

Wonky Llama consists of myself (Skyler Golden aka Jade Cicada) and Will Russek (aka Schmoop).

I (Jade) have been producing electronic music for 14 years and studied electronic production & (sound) design at Berklee College of Music. I've toured internationally, have been a mastering engineer for 6 years, and have released quite a bit of music :)

Will (Schmoop) has been producing electronic music for 9 years, currently studying design and production at University of Texas at Dallas.

Together we form WONKY LLAMA! We make a combination of bass music and downtempo chill stuff. We have 1 EP release under our belt from 2014 but keep new music to ourselves for the most part, and play it out at shows. We work together on pretty much everything and once Will has graduated we plan on becoming more active.

Some of our biggest influences are Tipper, Noisia, Amon Tobin, Dorian Concept, J Dilla, Pete Rock, Madlib, Mad Zach, DJ Premier, Dibiase, Disasterpeace, Nils Frahm, Dimlite, Shigeto, and more.

Please feel to direct questions to either me specifically, Will specifically, or the both of us :)

Here's our music:

What is your collaborative process like? Do you guys like to work in the same room or do you work apart and send the tunes back and forth?

What has it been like balancing your individual acts and working on Wonky Llama at the same time? Do you go back and forth or try to work on both simultaneously?

And, maybe a little different but, what has your combined experiences been as you’ve seen such an incredible rise in popularity/fame over recent years (is it weird? Are you pretty neutral about it?)

Thanks so much for doing this!

Love the tunes and the latest EP. Two questions:

1. Do you have a favorite performance you've done?
2. Who are some of your favorite visual artists right now? Saw you live for the first time at Nightmare Fest and was absolutely mindfucked by the visual aspect of the show and how well it fit your music.

We collaborate a majority of the time using Dropbox and Zoom for sharing projects/sharing screen and audio. Recently we have been using Audiomovers to share audio back and forth in higher quality (https://audiomovers.com/). Pretty insane lil tool.

When I have the opportunity to be in Denver, we work in person in Sky's studio. We tend to split our sound design sessions from compositional sessions.

It isn't super common for us to work on a Wonky Llama tune individually, but sometimes one of us will start a tune and the other wants to collaborate on it.

Hope you guys are doing good! How did you two meet and decide on making this label?

What is something production related that you have learned from collaborating with each other?

Finally, whats a trend in music production that you feel is overdone/overhyped?

How did you find your creative match or know it was a good fit?

Did you try working with other artists before working together or did you just develop a good relationship with each other?
